Frequently Asked Questions
How does the ratio calculator work?
BrewPrint connects water weight, coffee weight, and brew ratio as a single equation: Water ÷ Coffee = Ratio. Adjust any one of the three values and the other two update automatically. Tap a value to make it active, then drag the scale on the right for fine control (with haptic ticks) or tap it again to type an exact number. This lets you scale recipes up or down instantly — for example, keeping your ratio constant while adjusting how much water your brewer holds.
You can also pick a brew method from the selector bar to load its default ratio. The choice sticks, so you can fine-tune the values and still brew that method. Tap the brew button to start that method's guided timer or open its recipe and notes; leave it on Custom for a simple count-up timer.
What brew methods does BrewPrint support?
V60, Chemex, AeroPress, French Press, Espresso, Moka Pot, and Cold Brew. Each method comes with a curated default ratio, step timings, and an on-demand prep guide. More may be added in future updates.
What are Blueprints?
A Blueprint is a saved brew configuration — your complete recipe, including method, ratio, water amount, coffee amount, grind size, water temperature, timed brew steps, notes, and a star rating. Load a Blueprint to set everything at once, or pin one as the default for its brew method. Creating and editing Blueprints is part of BrewPrint Pro.
What is the Pantry?
The Pantry is where you keep track of the coffees you're brewing (part of BrewPrint Pro). Add a bag with just a name to start, then optionally a roaster, roast level, roast date, and tasting notes. As you type a roaster, BrewPrint suggests ones you've used before so your names stay consistent. Open any coffee to see every brew you've made with it, and rate a coffee to remember which bags you liked. Recently brewed coffees rise to the top.
How does coffee freshness work?
Set a roast date on a coffee and BrewPrint shows how long it's been off roast, for example "9 days off roast," with a color cue for the peak window. For pour-over and other filter methods the sweet spot is roughly 5 to 21 days, and lighter roasts rest a little longer before they hit their stride; espresso usually rests longer still. Freezing a bag pauses the clock. It's a gentle guide, not a rule.
How do I record which coffee I used for a brew?
When a staged brew finishes, the "How was it?" sheet lets you pick the coffee, and it defaults to your last-used bag. You can clear it to record no coffee, or create a new coffee right there. Forgot to set one? Open the brew in the Brew Log and tap the Coffee row to add it after the fact.
What's in the Brew Log?
Every completed staged brew is saved to the Brew Log with its recipe, your rating, and notes (viewing the log is part of BrewPrint Pro). Open an entry to rate it, add notes, adjust grind or temperature, or save it as a Blueprint. Use the filter to narrow by method, coffee, roaster, date, or minimum rating, so it's easy to see how a particular bag or roaster has been brewing.
What's included in BrewPrint Pro?
BrewPrint Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks the full staged brew timer (unlimited), unlimited custom Blueprints, the Brew Log history, the Pantry for tracking your coffees, and custom app icons. The ratio calculator, all brew methods and prep guides, and a basic count-up timer are free forever. Free users also get a handful of trial staged brews so you can try the Pro timer before you buy.
I bought Pro on another device — how do I get it here?
Your purchase is tied to your Apple Account. On a new device, open BrewPrint, go to Settings, and choose Restore Purchases. As long as you're signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it on, Pro will be restored at no additional charge.
Does BrewPrint sync across my devices?
Yes. If you're signed in to iCloud, your Blueprints, brew log, and settings sync automatically and privately across your iPhones and iPad — no setup and no BrewPrint account required. The data travels only between your devices and your own iCloud; Possisoft never sees it. If you're not signed in to iCloud, everything still works and stays on your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Why isn't my data showing up on my other device?
iCloud sync needs both devices signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive on, and a network connection. New changes can take a moment to propagate. If something looks out of sync, make sure iCloud is enabled for BrewPrint (iOS Settings → your name → iCloud), confirm you're online, and give it a minute. If it persists, email us.
Can I switch between °C and °F?
Yes. Open Settings to switch the temperature unit (Celsius or Fahrenheit) any time. Weights are always in grams: BrewPrint is gram-native to match coffee scales, which read in grams and flow in grams per second, so there's no ounces toggle to fuss with.
Will BrewPrint work with a Bluetooth scale?
Bluetooth scale integration is on our roadmap but isn't in the current release. If this is important to you, let us know at hello@possisoft.com — user interest helps us prioritize what we build next.
